Maybe your people don't just have one name. You know how a lot of peoples have family surnames, personal names, and sometimes others.

I suppose it could have been some kind of shared dream version of that planet, or - I don't know. But if people can be reborn after their bodies just vanish, I guess being in two places at once isn't much of a stretch.
